Toby

Hi, my names Toby, also known as techy tobes by friends and family. I've spent my life being the person in the home/office people come to with their tech issues, the one who's mere presence and uttering of "have you tried turning...." makes whatever user induced tech issues current ensuing magically rectify themselves.

It's a gift and a curse as any professional tech support person will likely tell you. I spend my days running a digital agency specialising in web & graphic design, i also freelance providing general tech & creative consultancy services to SMEs.

Being a dad of 2 and a husband, i have limited time (and money) to spend on techy stuff these days. My main interests are smart home & A/V, which luckily are fairly easy to incorporate into family life. It's a lot easier to pass off a new smart light or display as advantageous to the family and achieve wife approval, than it is say a new gaming setup! Outside of home tech i love cars, cooking and just generally building stuff, from home diy to mechanics.

About This Website

So what's the point in this blog? The idea of this site is to form a personal portfolio of what i get upto outside of my work life, in the hopes it may help people wanting to do similar projects or wanting to know if it's a good idea to buy certain products. I try and do smart home, A/V and various other projects on a budget, often meaning waiting for deals or discounts on things i've been considering for a while.

You won't find rushed incomplete reviews about the latest overpriced tech here, what you will find though is insights about products that have been tested at the hands of someone who notices the little things, that everyday people may not. Also not just product reviews but general experiences of common things you may be considering yourself, eg. moving from android to ios (which i've actually done in 2023...then back to android....then back to ios again!) I'm not saying that i will cover everything as everyones use of tech is different, but it's quite likely that what i write about will have been used in our home or by me for many months or even years, has been wife (and children) approved. I feel like this could be more relatable content to a lot of my fellow tech enthuasiasts!
The home of my personal tech experiences and setups, hopefully helping others make good tech decisions!
